London Broil Marinade

Let’s talk about how we make this flavorful London broil marinade, shall we? There are so many wonderful cuts of beef out there, and I love so many of them, but today we’re doing with an economical cut and we’re making one of my favorites, Grilled London Broil. “London Broil” refers to the preparation of the beef - Marinate, Cook, Slice - not the cut. You can use different cuts of beef, but I’m using top-round, which is a tougher, leaner cut with big flavor that benefits greatly from a good marinade, which is the point of this recipe....

Lowcountry Cooking In Charleston Sc And Where To Find It

Aunt Karyn introduced us to some exciting Lowcountry fun and cooking. She booked us a shrimp boat, which we took out and sat in the warming sun while the captain dragged a net about the ocean floor. We only caught about a pound of shrimp, which we enjoyed later, but were shocked when the net trapped a 3-foot shark. It unfortunately ripped a hole in the captain’s net. Lucky for the shark, we tossed it back into the sea....

Mini Banana Coconut Cream Pies

My dad has always been the biggest lemon pie, coconut cream pie and banana cream pie fan – must be all that smooth, silky filling. While combining lemon, coconut and banana did cross my mind, in the end I knew banana and coconut together was a must – they just belong together! When you cross banana cream pie and coconut cream pie you get a luscious, velvety custard-like filling that blows boxed pudding away, made with coconut milk and mixed with sweetened coconut flakes all cradled in a mini sugar cookie crust....

Numex R Naky Chili Peppers

The NuMex R Naky chile is an Anaheim-type hybrid created by Dr. Nakayama of New Mexico State University in 1985. It comes from the mix of the Rio Grande 21 pepper, the New Mexico 6-4, and a Bulgarian paprika. The fruit grows to 5-6 inches and has a mild flavor. In comparison, the New Mex R Naky produces significantly more volume per acre than the New Mexico 6-4, and has a brighter red color....

Ogura Toast

Among all the Nagoya Foods (Nagoya-meshi, 名古屋めし) we tried while we were traveling in Nagoya this past summer, Ogura Toast (小倉トースト) was the most unexpectedly delicious food we enjoyed. Simply, it’s toasted Japanese bread called Shokupan (食パン) topped with butter and sweet azuki red bean paste....

Pakistani Chicken Karahi Qeema Stir Fried Ground Chicken

A “karahi” for those of you who are wondering is basically a wok. It allows the food you are cooking to cook faster and gives it greater flavor than what would happen if you were to use a smaller pot. If you do not have a wok then use a larger saute pan for optimal results. What makes a Karahi of any kind tasty is the caramelising of tomatoes and that requires surface area (and sadly, oil)....

Plum Rice Ball Midnight Diner Season 2

Mr. JOC and I started watching season 2 of the popular Netflix® show – Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories so that we can re-create the recipes from the series. In Episode 3, an old man named Umejii went into the diner and requested for pickled plums. When the master handed him a plate, he ate 10 of these plums straight up! Prawn Shrimp Masala Shrimp In A Spicy Tomato Base

I do know though that sometimes we can overdo it like the time my eldest brother and I decided to order food for sehri/suhoor from Barbq Tonite, a Karachi institution and home of some incredibly tasty prawn masala. The prawn masala was not the only dish we ordered – if memory serves correctly it was one of eight of which only the naan and half a kabab were left after the two of us were done with it....

Quick Extra Creamy Instant Pot Kheer

What is Kheer? Although when we speak of kheer we often default to Chawal ki Kheer or Rice Pudding, in my Pakistani household, the kheer my mother made most, was this Bread Kheer.
