Step 1: Remove the kamaboko from the wooden board.

Step 2: Slice off the uneven edge on both ends.

Step 3: Cut three thin slices of red-skinned kamaboko, each 1 mm thick.

Step 4: Cut a slice of white kamaboko 1/2 inch (12 mm) thick.

Step 5: Make a slit in the middle of the white kamaboko slice from the top.

Step 6: Stagger the 3 thinly sliced red kamaboko on top of each other. 

Step 7: Roll up the slices.

Step 8: Place the kamaboko roll inside the slit of the white kamaboko. Now you have a beautiful kamaboko rose that symbolizes love and joy.
