Turkey is oh-so-common around the holidays, with good reason, but don’t forget that other somewhat overlooked option that is WAY EASIER to make - Baked Ham with Chipotle-Honey Glaze. This is one of my favorite baked ham recipes for a few reasons. Second, it feeds a crowd. Easily. Most of these huge hams are 8-10 pounds, so you can feed your whole crew and still have some leftovers. Third, it’s very easy to make. Ham has a lot of flavor and its already cooked, so you really only need to heat it to temp and serve it up. Of course there are all sorts of ways to develop flavor with a baked ham, honey baked ham being one of the most popular ways. You’ll find glazes made with maple syrup, pineapple juice or orange juice, mustard glazes, brown sugar glazes and more, but I make mine a bit differently. In particular, chipotle in adobo sauce. Chipotle in adobo sauce is smoky and spicy and massively HUGE on flavor. The honey sweetens it up in just the right way that is ideal for a baked ham, and combined, you get this wonderful sweet and spicy glaze that everyone will love. So yeah, this isn’t any old honey baked ham recipe. What we have here is Chipotle-Honey Baked Ham, and you’re going to keep this one in your back pocket not only for the holidays, but for anytime of the year when you need to cook for a big group. Let’s talk about how to make baked ham, shall we? Bake the Ham. Use a knife to score the surface of the ham with a cross-hatch pattern. Bake the ham for 90 minutes, uncovered. Process to form a thick paste. Glaze the Ham. After 90 minutes, brush the ham with glaze then continue to bake another 30 minutes, adding a bit more glaze a few times during the final cooking. NOTE: When cooking pre cooked or fully cooked ham, you should cook it 15 minutes to 20 minutes per pounds until you reach the desired internal temperature. Remove the ham and cool it slightly. Carve and serve with the extra glaze. Cover with aluminum foil to keep warm if needed. It’s huge and really does serve a crowd. Perfect for Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner! That’s it, my friends. I hope you enjoy my Chipotle-Honey Baked Ham recipe. It totally ROCKS and I’m not afraid to say so. Spice it up as much as you desire. Just be sure to give Grandma a warning.
